Magasin 4 – Brussels, Belgium
“Magasin 4, the Mecca of punk-rock culture in Brussels is saved !” The new concert venue is located alongside the Charleroi canal and is part of a landscape of logistics activities. Its architecture reflects the post-industrial identity of the neighborhood and of the music itself. It takes warehouse architecture as its template, borrowing the vocabulary and technical devices of today’s giant warehouses, such as sliding sectional doors, rack structure, and honeycombed prefabricated concrete slabs. Warehouse architecture is like a big meccano set, with visible and distinct components. Here, the meccano principle consists in creating a building that can be both assembled and disassembled. It responds to the challenge of potential future changes by offering the possibility of adding a roof extension and of recycling its own materials.
