Helsinki +

Guggenheim Helsinki – Helsinki, Finland

The building takes the shape of a double inverted pyramid, referring to the spiralling structure of the New York museum. This strange form, whose symbolism resists any singular interpretation, results from the superimposition of the different surfaces of activity, united by a three-dimensional steel structure. It engages visitors in an ascending experience leading from the ground floor up to the different exhibition spaces, an outdoor sculpture-terrace and a panoramic restaurant. The journey through the museum allows to discover Helsinki’s cityscape and its natural archipelago. The museum is conceived as an observatory of both art and landscape. It is envisioned simultaneously as a harbour and a media infrastructure.
